When will alta labs debute ap7?
I’ve been waiting as well and hoping it has at least 2.5gb ports. I have a very expensive switch to the left to me on a shelf waiting since then I’ll need all the poe it provides. Currently squeezing by with an 8 porter..
I believe they’ve mentioned hoping to get it out in the first quarter of this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an update on it in the live stream that’s coming up on the 28th ![]()
Fairly certain they mentioned before it would have a 10Gb port, though could be wrong. Might have to re-check that myself. As @jmszuch mentioned, hopefully we shall get more information about the product or even a release window tomorrow.
On Alta Labs Live they said they’re testing the AP7s and the next event in Feb will have the road map of devices for the year.
Moot discussion unless they plan to have a PoE switch that can handle both the power and rated speed. If not, were going backwards into PoE injector territory.
@Beaker As also mentioned on the ALL, we are sharing a 2026 product and feature roadmap during our February live stream. It will be worth checking out.
Plugging APs into an S12 is something I’d consider but I’d like a smaller 10 gig capable PoE switch to connect off an S12. I’d be amazed if they didn’t do something as WiFi7 in theory can be very bandwidth hungry and they’ve said the initial AP will have a 10 gig port so something to connect it to makes sense.
If only my internet could keep up ![]()
Sorry for the dumb question but will wifi7 to just a few devices realistically be able to saturate a 2.5gb link? I am considering upgrading to the s48 when the ap7 comes out and I suspect only a few devices in my home actually support WiFi7 so I was hoping to use a 2.5gb Poe port on the s48 to connect the ap7. Worst case I would plug into the sfp+ port on the s48 and add a poe injector but idk if my wiring will even support proper 10gbe.
I have a 2gb line and it can pull up to around 2.4gb and my cell on good speed test has hit 1.7/1.8gb on my wifi 7 with 10gb uplinks. I’ve never done speed tests with iperf but my guess is yes depending on what you are doing and distance. I have a laptop I do video editing from that connects to my san and it can pull pretty hard.
I see them promoting the AP7 on Instagram.
FYI, S48 is PoE+
Is that not sufficient to power the AP7? Also I was under the impression that you can’t do poe over sfp+ ports which is why I thought I’d need the poe injector if I wanted to use the 10gb uplink to connect to the ap7. Sorry if I’m mixing stuff up still, networking is not my forte (but I’m trying to learn more slowly).
Yeah, that’s essentially what I will be doing once 10Gb becomes available in the UK.
S12 SFP+ port uplink to AP7-Pro and then a PoE injector to power the AP7-Pro. We’ll see what other surprises may be in store on the Alta Live in two weeks time.
