Switch Firmware 2.1c Released!

Hi everyone,

We have a new release available which adds support for setting STP mode and priority, and also adds the ability to view STP blocking state in management (please refer to port overview in Switch modal). This support is currently limited to web management, but our mobile apps will add support in a future release. The release notes thread is found here:

  • STP Priority is set on a per switch basis from the settings for that switch (Network, click on the switch you want to change, choose Settings in switch Modal, select the desired Priority and choose Save).
  • STP Mode is set on a site basis. The default is MSTP, but if you need to change it you can go to Settings>System>Advanced>Loop Prevention Protocol, choose the desired mode and the switches on that site will be updated.
  • The switch modal referred to above is the same as the one used for configuration. So go to Network and click on the icon for the switch you wish to manage, by default you start on Ports which gives the overview. A red dot indicates a blocked port (due to a loop being detected).

If you have any questions let us know, and as usual if you notice anything please create a new thread with the details.

Cheers,
Mike

Can you provide insight on why you feel MSTP is the best protocol to use as default? This would be the first time I have ever used it.

One essential advantage of MSTP is its backward compatibility with RSTP and STP. This means that integrating an Alta Labs switch into an existing network configured for RSTP or STP should be seamless, ensuring operational continuity across diverse network configurations without necessitating any changes.

For a detailed comparison, THIS article provides a comprehensive table comparing these protocols.

This backward compatibility, combined with MSTP’s ability to efficiently manage multiple* spanning tree instances for improved network performance and flexibility, underscores our rationale. It’s about providing a solution that not only meets contemporary network demands but also offers ease of integration and future scalability.

*support for multiple instances is pending

Updated manually via web management and absolutely no issue to report. Update was smooth and quick as always.
