Route10 Firmware 1.3u Released!

The latest firmware update for Route10 brings the following enhancements and fixes:

  • Reverts change from 1.3t: Ensure that printed device MAC is used for all bridge interfaces, improving DHCP Guard experience

This update is being rolled out now. You can manually initiate the upgrade if you’d like, or it will automatically update overnight (if auto-updates are enabled). The complete, up-to-date changelog is available here:

Same. I didn’t have the original issue (perhaps because I had DHCP Guard disabled?), but updated again to 1.3u and no issues to report.

Happy with the progress but please take more care in bug testing. Please consider a separate beta and production release channel so client sites don’t get the latest and greatest automatically until it’s been tested. Thank you for the quick fix though.

I agree with, and fully support the beta and production release channel. I am sure there are a number of us that would be happy to help you beta best pre-releases!

This would be a nice option for the future. Mikrotik has a similar practice where users have an option to switch from production updates to beta.

Personally, I prefer to turn off auto updates regardless of vendor.

Would it be possible to not turn off PoE on both ports during a firmware update / reboot? I have (non-Alta) APs connected to those ports and thanks to DFS it always takes 10 minutes until I get my 5Ghz Wi-Fi back.

Wow, staff removed my posts on my legitimate posts on EEE consuming more energy when enabled when tested with a watt meter, and on their own controller gui. Can’t take negative feedbacks? Sure, I take it elsewhere to reddit on how rubbish this product is.

Ngl, censoring posts regarding product complaints/issues is a terrible look. I could understand if people are harassing one another, but you should not censor negative feedback regarding your products, unfortunately, it seems to be a recurring theme here.

Ok folks, let’s take a quick step back here.

  1. “Lol, grab a watt meter and test EEE features, consumed more energy with it enabled, lmao.” Is not really constructive and given the track record, it was removed. Whether or not it should’ve been is up for debate. Perhaps a more constructive wording would’ve allowed the post to stay.
  2. Literally any logged in group of users can flag a post and it will get temporarily removed from the public view until staff can review the post.
  3. I think we’re very light handed in moderation, personally. One man’s opinion.
  4. EEE and PoE are not the same thing, so the report that states " user complained about EEE consuming more energy when tested with a watt meter and what is shown on their manage.alta.inc’s POE ports consumption" is either worded poorly or rooted in inaccurate data. EEE would have an impact on “twisted-pair, twinaxial, backplane, and optical fiber Ethernet physical-layer variants” which is to say, in this context, all Ethernet and Fiber interfaces.
  5. We’ve already reverted the EEE change, are going back to the drawing board and will release a more robust solution to address what may or may not be a valid, albeit poorly reported, issue.

That being said, for everyone’s knowledge, creating throwaway accounts to get around moderation is not allowed. So that account we be banned.

It was actually another forum user that flagged the post.

But it wasn’t a forum user that removed the one comment on EEE. While I agree that some of the ways Jaianna presents information might not be the most constructive, often time bordering hostile, deleting users comments is going to do nothing but backfire on the perception of the company. How can we trust you to be open and honest with these products if you’re locking threads and deleting peoples even poorly communicated grievances?

@DN3092 He has violated our forum policies multiple times, has been warned multiple times, and made alternate accounts to subvert our moderation. We already acknowledged that we are working on his specific speed issue. I would ask you your recommendation on what to do with such a user.

It was indeed a non-staff forum user that originally flagged his EEE post. We have been nothing but forthcoming about product features, issues that have existed and been resolved, and we’re even having a public open-forum webinar tomorrow with live Q&A. We offer free phone support for our products, and actually listen to our customers by improving our products using community feedback from this forum.

All you can do is assure them that their grievances are understood, and you are trying to work on a solution for their specific issue. Escalating things further by deleting relatively harmless comments isn’t going to help things imo. Once they go around making multiple accounts I would say your hands are tied at that point. But what led to that? Was it the deleting of the previous comment, idk?

Sure, a forum user flagged it but moderation then removed it. Imo deleting/locking should be absolute last resort. You have the EEE comment deleted, then another user mentioning they had their comments deleted and thread locked the other day here.

As a new user (having alta products for less than 2 weeks now) its not a good look. So far I’ve been very happy with the product and its performance but seeing these things makes me wonder if this is the ecosystem I want to commit to.

I already explained that he has had multiple violations, and multiple warnings. Rules exist for a reason, and abuse of any kind can not be tolerated. Like I said, we have only been forthcoming and open in all we’ve done, and will continue to do so.

It’s truly disheartening to see how negativity can often overshadow the consistent hard work and dedication of the AltaLab team. Over time, they’ve proven their commitment to supporting the community, consistently providing solutions, responding to queries, and addressing concerns, even as a small team working with a relatively new product.

Yet, it only takes one nuanced incident for criticism to spiral and for negativity to persist. It’s as though the countless positive contributions—the 100 times over where they’ve gone above and beyond—are forgotten. This is probably unfair and counterproductive.

Let’s take a step back and acknowledge the incredible efforts they’ve made to build a solid product and support structure. It’s rare to find companies this invested in their users, especially for something so new. While feedback is necessary and helps drive improvement, let’s ensure it’s balanced, constructive, and acknowledges their dedication rather than cornering them into endless justifications.

We’re all part of the same community here, working towards the best experience possible. Let’s strive to foster a more positive and collaborative environment. Remember the very reasonable price of the product and the small team and limitations Alta labs might have till the product takes off.

Tbh, yes I am also waiting for that to be fixed(ip sorting) but being in software industry and working for different companies of different sizes I can only imagine what the team might be going through with limited funding, probably that is the reason I want to be more tolerant. - atleast that is my take.

@schausspink The posts were flagged because the user persists in violating our forum policies and subverting moderation. If you know anything about our company, all we do is listen to our customers, but abuse will not be tolerated.
