Whats your default configuration for Inter-VLAN routing on a new setup. Would traffic between networks be blocked straight away when a new vlans created or is traffic allowed to route across networks?
Will we be able to see the speed coming from the isp on this router?
Thanks
Looks like the default is allowed, but can be limited of course by way of firewall rules.
Not at launch but this is something we can look at in the not too distant future.
Not right away, but is something we can look at for the future.
Negative.
This issue with public roadmaps is there will inevitably be something that comes up at some point that will delay things. We’re doing our best to avoid over promising and under delivering while being as transparent as we can.
We’d much rather under promise and over deliver. Applying that thought process to the roadmap, we’d end up having to pad nearly everything on the roadmap and then likely have features come sooner than expected. A big downside to this is that users would see “XYZ feature is coming in June 2025, but I need XYZ in May 2025, so I’ll have to get a different product” (completely arbitrary future dates, of course), then the feature comes in May and that user is frustrated.
It’s a razor thin balance. One that has bit a lot of companies in the past.
TL;DR, we’re trying to avoid the “Soon™” response.
I really appreciate that approach very good job
I think it’s just over two weeks until the Route10 Pre-orders start to ship out, which is exciting.
When will those with the test units be able to share more information on these units please - intrigued to see some screenshots of what is on offer currently and maybe could any firmware updates (release notes) be shared with the wider community so we can see what is being added etc. please
Thanks Alta - I am going to pretend it was my begging that caused this video to be uploaded and it wasn’t just a coincidence
My network is a FULL Alta Labs stack at this time, and it is the fastest, most responsive network stack I have ever built. I know it’s going to take a bit for every feature to roll out, but Route10 is absolutely worth getting excited about. It is a BEAST of a router! Combine the smoothness of Alta Labs configuration, and how quickly everything responds, it is such a welcome experience.
Currently it isn’t in my stack, there’s a few features that I need before go live.
Looks like it’s available via Amazon now as well. Sweet. Amazon.com: Alta Labs Route10 High-Performance Qualcomm Quad-Core Hardware-Accelerated 10 Gbps VPN Router | 2 10 Gbps SFP+ and 4 2.5 Gbps Ports | Real-Time Stats | 40W PoE+ to Power Alta Labs WiFi Access Points : Electronics
Plus they are doing a Q & A on the 9th October…
Join us for an ALL - Alta Labs Live special event on October 9th at 1pm ET. Alta Labs CEO Chase Harrison and Alta Labs CTO Jeff Hansen will discussing the new Route10 - 10 Gbps Router and doing a Q&A as we livestream to multiple social media platforms. I have some questions:
I feel there is a typo in the datasheet. The datasheet states, “Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems at 10Gbps.” There is no way the Route10 can do IDS/IDPS at 10Gbps. Is the datasheet trying to say IDS/IDPS is only supported through the 10G interfaces? Also, is there public information on the throughput with IDS/IDPS?
Datasheet: https://media.alta.inc/datasheet/Route10_Datasheet.pdf
@Joe No typo. Based on how Route10 is design and with our initial testing, we are pretty confident we can maintain 10Gbps IDS/IDPS. Once we conclude our internal development and testing, we would be happy to share the results.
IDS/IDPS will be supported on all ports.
@lucaat Thanks for the questions on Route10! I have the following responses for you!
I’m very interested to see how Alta intends to test this…
