ROUTE10 FAQs (and answers)

I’ve taken the tester unit I’ve got open and it’s metal at the bottom so the bottom of the case is the passive cooler  even the SFP modules have thermal stickers on to aid in cooling.

What chipset is being used? I am guessing qualcomm 1620 pro/ipq9574?

I assume it is running a linux variant, customized vyos or openwrt?

I believe it will @Todd_Vasko, as will I, so don’t get too excited.

It is unlikely to have Unbound on the ROUTE10 itself at any point, but I can’t rule it out completely.

Most likely not.

It will be free, no licensing or extra fees for IDS/IPS.

Don’t put yourself down Matt! Im sure you could get some semi decent photos… maybe

I probably could, but the background would be a rat’s nest of about every cable you can think of. Lab environments don’t need to look pretty

I am looking for exactly what Unifi provides. The gateway shows me a bar graph of green for less than 15ms latency, yellow for high latency, red for heartbeat ping server not reachable (down).

What is the average idle power consumption without PoE?

It took me a bit to find my Kill-A-Watt type device. Just Ethernet WAN plugged in it’s idling at 5.96W.

Thanks a lot for the info. This is pretty low.

Any updates on the option rack mount?

Is it possible to use a GPON SFP Module for WAN?

We received initial designs that we aren’t satisfied with and are working through iterations of new designs. Once we’re satisfied with the designs, we’ll move to mass production, the current estimation of mass production is Q1.

GPON SFPs are not officially supported, at least not yet so this is subject to change.

However, we can not rule it out completely. We get a lot of SFP questions in general, and the reality is that there are thousands of different brands and models that it’s almost akin to saying “do you like these shoes?”, it’s a very loaded question and we can’t test every single SFP out there, especially in a long term and full spectrum capacity.

Do we have a roadmap with rough dates of when stuff might be going live? Like the IPS/IDS or is it simply a case that it’s coming on/after release.
