Route 10 lost connection after updating from 1.4t to 1.4u

Could not reconnect to Route 10 after updating. Had to do a power on reset to establish connection from the cloud controller. Devices could then connect with no internet. I use a local dns server and I had to delete the local dns routing and do another power on reset before connectivity was restored.

Sorry to hear this, but I really do appreciate that you took the time to report the issue. Would love to do some debugging with you on this. I sent a DM before I saw this topic, but thought I should comment here, too. Please let me know either here or there at your convenience.

The debugging itself, if interested, could get pretty messy with the back and forth, so probably keep that part in DM or a support ticket, and then follow up with a public synopsis here.

Thanks again!

Hi Mike - This is happening to multiple people, including me. On the 1.4 release post: Route10 Firmware 1.4u Released! - #23 by Unflawed there are multiple people reporting issues with the new update.

Sorry to hear of the issues! Yes, I’m getting caught up reading the reports this morning, and starting to reach out. Thanks for the mention! It’s much appreciated.

As Jeff already mentioned in the release topic, most devices are online and there aren’t any intentional changes that should cause anything like what is reported, but obviously something unexpected is happening (likely something yet to be discovered/lingering over time).

I’m hesitant to say that my two existing cases are linked, as they have been going on for longer than this recent firmware. I also can’t rule it out, but the two cases I have are actually slightly different behind the scenes even though at symptom level they are similar.

What state is your Route10 in now? No need to be technical, but are you able to expand on “disconnected the internet”? Were you able to check any info from Control, or shell? Were you able to get it to a usable/recovered state? Is this the first time it happened?

No worries if not, and if you’re working now, that’s great. Happy to help, so please let me know if I can help, either here or the other thread, or DM.

If you can replicate this state reliably, and know how to get out reliably, that is very worthwhile info for us, etc. Also for you, or anyone, would love to do some intentional debugging to gather info if realistic to ask. Not trying to be a burden though.

Hi Mike - Got home an hour ago and started troubleshooting. I got it working after 30 minutes or so after multiple power resets and normal resets. What finally got it working was removing it from my site, reset, configure (with a new public ip), power reset and then it worked.

When it didn’t work, the DHCP server was bricked and the communication between my Route10 and my ISP CPE didn’t work, hence the none internet part. I isolated the problem by getting other devices to talk directly to the CPE.

Do you have firewall groups? If so, no further debugging required.

That is the confirmed issue that we know of. I’m going to make a better post in the 1.4u release thread. Fix is ready, and we even have a test firmware. I will be reaching out to those interested in trying directly, or feel free to DM me.

Do note that the Route10 needs to be online in Control for me to do this (and if local, needs to be externally accessible), OR if you stlil have shell access, you could also create a temporary firewall rule for me to access (can provide steps + key, ip to limit scope, etc if going that route).
