ALTA seems to be struggling to deliver products that the market needs. However, I see they are offering crap like AltaBoost that does not work in the Caribbean. I’m not aware that anyone asked for Alta Boost.
They need to listen more to the customers and release products that make Alta a compelling choice over Ubiquiti.
Now, my project in July has changed, and my clients now want Ubiquiti instead of Alta. Ubiquiti has the right fit products to meet my client’s requirements.
I am rooting for Alta, but my clients are not, as they need zone-based firewalling and native DPI, both of which Route10 does not have yet, which is why I can’t use it in an enterprise environment.
That’s exactly what I would like ! If you ask them for these features things happen !! BTW im waiting for dashboard view of vpn connections
Our team is actively working on implementations for a variety of requested features at any given time. Some are easier to develop than others, while some are not possible without building a network of underlying dependencies first. It just takes time that other vendors have had decades to put into their products and software. We’ll get there.
I am disappointed that there is a delay. My confidence is eroding that Alta can provide the products customers really need.
As for firewalls, I am sticking with UniFi ZBF and pfSense. I thought Alta would have emerged as a compelling reason to move away from UniFi by now.
I think your expectations are too high for a company that is still working to bring items to market. Unlike other vendors, they do listen to their customer base and take feedback seriously. I removed both TP-Link Omada and UniFi because I was tired of being the beta tester for their software.
While I will say Alta has had its share of issues, my reports were promptly met with responses like, “My name is [insert name] from the Alta team. I’d like to assist you with troubleshooting this.” I’ve had conversations on this platform, LinkedIn, and via email until my issues were resolved. I don’t think you’ll find that type of passionate service from another vendor without a service contract.
Noted,
I will lower my expectations of AltaLabs and remain all-in with Uniquiti as I have never had issues with them.
IMO, you should move to Dlink, its way better then Unifi garbage !
Even with a lightning strike on an AP which melted the plastic, the AP still worked flawlessly. UniFi is garbage, you say? It’s RELIABLE GARBAGE.
My customers keep ordering more RELIABLE GARBAGE (UniFi) and are enjoying the cost savings, performance and easy manageability.
As Tom Lawrence once said, “Let my dollars do the talking”. Ubiquiti has a complete rack and accessories product line, while ALTALABS is struggling to produce a simple prototype that looks great, as shown in the photo they posted in the forum. They won’t sell it.
I do not see a compelling reason to migrate from UniFi to AltaLabs. So, we will keep the RELIABLE GARBAGE. It just works!
LOL ! Id rather use dlink then Unifi. They come out with an idea way to fast and implement it with out testing it properly. Their dashboard guy is so over polluted with menus and things to click on that make NO sense at all.
Warranty BLOWS CHUNKS TOO !! Buy your self a nice switch for 1500$ and you get 2 years max warranty ! F that, if im spending 1500$ on a switch I’ll go Aruba with lifetime warranty.
I’m glad Alta is taking their time with products, this means they are being tested properly unlike unifi !
Good thing there are lots of vendor to choose from and what you choose doesn’t have to be what someone else chooses.

@luke.fong We are doing our best to get products out the door to fill a rack with in the first place, without rushing them to market. The software takes time to develop as well. As I have noted before, the other vendors you’re discussing have had decades to implement and release products. It will take time for us to catch up.
