New Route10: How to get 10g link on SFP+?

Hi Alta devs,

I just got a new Route10 to see how it’d work in my multi-gig homelab network. Only connections are the two SFP+ ports on the Route10. I expected this to be a relatively easy swap with my existing Linux router, but two things immediately made this painful:

  1. Both SFP+ ports will only link at 1g regardless of anything I do. This is the first time the cables/hardware have ever negotiated below 10g connected to anything. Mellanox SFP+ cables connected to a USW Pro Aggregation. Updating to the latest firmware made no difference.
  2. Default subnet was 192.168.0.x when I was expecting/hoping for 192.168.1.x, with no obvious way to change this. Is there a way to change this? The original setup videos seemed to imply .1.x was already the default.

Thanks,
JM

The default subnet is 192.168.1.0/24 unless a conflict is detected. Make sure your network isn’t running another router, firewall and/or DHCP server. The most common cause for the overlap is your service provider’s modem. It often includes a router, which will introduce a double NAT and convolute your network.

Answering my own question here: the Route10 is incompatible with Mellanox SFP+ DAC cables.

As for why I ended up with .0.x on the first setup attempt is unclear since my only previous router was unplugged during setup (but existing clients may have had existing .1.x leases present.) The behavior didn’t replicate after a reset and re-setup on the latest firmware.
