Anyone else pick up their ISP Default GW as a "device" in the cloud/controller mgmt interface?

ISP is Spectrum and they don’t have any special requirements as far as wan vlan, etc. Modem is spectrum provided and connected directly to Route10. Asking due to the fact that the only time i have ever seen the related MAC address in all the previous network setups i’ve had, was when i ran a packet capture on the WAN side of the router.

Yeah, I believe that’s by design since it’s the “device” on the other side of the WAN port. For example, since we’re both on Spectrum

The same is the case with other sites I have using other ISPs as well

Roger that and appreciate the response. For context the device shows up as a “Casa Systems Inc” device - a company which went out of business almost 2 years ago and specialized in the mobile/radio market. Which jumped out b/c I am a cable/broadband subscriber.

Gotcha! I haven’t worked at an ISP or anything, but some searching around indicates that they may have made Cable Modem Termination Systems at one point at least:

Same for the “CADANT INC.” in my screenshot as well. Although that may be a brand made by ARRIS based on some other searches I did

Appreciate the information and do agree with you regarding the former device production. Spoke with Spectrum support and the tech I spoke with actually went above and beyond with the info he provided (as I’m only using their modem, they technically are only required to provide minimal support services - which you probably already knew.)
Since then, I have really tried to “let go” of being hung up on that particular sticking point and focus on “bull in a china shop” -ing my way through getting this new gear set up.
However - referring back to my original issue - I think it initially freaked me out seeing that MAC address simply for the fact I had only ever seen it when capturing the wan side - and I had to remind myself (with some welcomed feedback from you and others) that this is a different company and differnet gear, and different isn’t always a “bad” thing!

I look forward to future discussions

Hey, no problem! Sounds you got a hold of a good tech on Spectrums side too if he was willing to get into the details a bit.

Yeah, I would definitely agree that seeing that information isn’t bad, just somelthing different! If I had to provide a little criticism of how it’s implimented, I would say that it would be nice for it to be a little more obvious that it’s a device on the WAN side. Aside from just the indication that it’s attach to port W1 or W2. Perhaps a little tooltip or something along those lines. That might tamp down on some confusion

Yes, the same thing is happening to me. Additionally, they need to update the device icon for Alta-Control for the Map.

The WAN gateway being listed under Devices you mean? Just double checking

Yes. There is really no reason to see your WAN gateway. You ought to only see that in your firewall (Route10).

I think I’m mostly in agreement with you; which is to say that I’m fine seeing the WAN gateway in the controller, that’s it’s connected to the Route10, and on which port it’s connected. Although I think just dropping it into the Devices view can be confusing, as evidenced by this thread here.
