Hi All,
I have a project coming up to provide outdoor WIFI to a small sports ground.
I would like to use the new Outdoor AP’s to do this. Some AP’s will be cabled. but others will need to connect via wireless mesh. Can anyone provide some information regarding maximum distances between meshed AP’s in open air and the expected performance.
I have no experience with meshing on Alta Labs products, but if they do something similar like unifi they will use the 5Ghz radio to coordinate the meshing which will give you an indication that you should at least be within 5Ghz range for it to work decent also not sure if the capacity / 2 per hop counts here as well. Always be carefull with meshing regardless the brand. If you can cable it, if you can’t maybe look at ptp or ptmp to bring over the signal to other areas
Also have a look at this post in this forum which links to a YT video as well in where he explains that they do indeed use a 5Ghz band as a backhaul for the meshing: CHECK THIS OUT ! The Alta Labs Ap's mesh, and they do a WICKED JOB DOING IT!
