Wi-Fi Roaming Issue

We have deployed Alta Labs AP6 Pro and AP6 access points in our office environment. The APs are configured with the same SSID across multiple locations to support seamless roaming.

However, we are experiencing an issue when clients roam between APs. Even though the SSID is the same and roaming should occur smoothly, the client devices appear to trigger reauthentication during roaming. When this happens, the devices request a new DHCP IP address, which temporarily interrupts the internet connection for end users.

Because of this behavior, users are experiencing connectivity drops and unstable internet access when moving between AP coverage areas.

Could anyone please advise on the following:

  1. How to prevent reauthentication during roaming?

  2. Is there a recommended configuration for fast roaming (802.11r/k/v) on Alta Labs AP6 / AP6 Pro?

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

As long as all APs are on the same managed site, and fast roaming is enabled on the SSID, the behavior you are seeing should not happen. If you can share system logs around the time of a single roaming event from both APs, perhaps we can see what is happening. Do you have any non-default settings, and are all of your APs on the same site? Also, the APs need to be able to communicate with each other. Can you confirm that they can ping each other?

Mesh or hard wired? Seems like a common issue, I have the same issue. I’m on mesh. Couldn’t solve the issue. Devices roam around rooms and can’t locked on to any AP then. Even staying put in a room the locked on will only last for awhile then randomly disconnects again after a while.
