Why No 2.5G 5-8 Port Switch Option?

I recently needed to upgrade my network setup and incorporate a managed switch.

My network ecosystem is Alta Labs. I have the route 10 and 3 AP6 Pros.

My internet connection is 3gb up/down fiber.

I figured I could grab a 2.5G managed switch from Alta Labs, but the only one is the 48 port rack mounted one.

That’s a bit of overkill for what I need.

So, I ended up having to go with a Unifi flex 2.5 G 8 port switch.

Nothing wrong with it. It’s a good switch, but I would have preferred to stay with Alta Labs.

It seems odd that for use cases like mine where only a 5 or 8 port switch is needed that Alta Labs still only offers a gigabit option.

Are there any plans to offer a 2.5G switch? It would probably sell really well as most people, including myself, really enjoy the Alta Labs products and would prefer to keep their networking equipment within the same ecosystem

According to the roadmap there is a rack mountable S8-APOE coming… 8x 10G RJ45 (POE++), 4 SFP+ ports. Not sure if you prefer tabletop form factor like the current S8.

As @jeffk931 mentioned, we do have some additional switch options in the pipeline. HERE is the YouTube Roadmap update from earlier this year if you are interested.

The S8-APOE will most likely be at least a few hundred dollars.
Many competitors have a $100-$150 5-8 port 2.5Gb switch either non-PoE and/or PoE.
I agree with the original poster’s vote for Alta to come up with something similar.

Also here for a 2.5Gb or better switch that isn’t designed for a production environment.

Route 10 and AP6 pro in use now.

no sfp+ on 8 and 16 ports switch in the big 2016 is even crazier
