Vlan tagging the client

So I’ve noticed in the dashboard client list you can click on any device and give it a tag and other things. This feature is pretty neat. I am just curious, can anyone give more details on how it performs this function. I’m calling it layer 3 routing, but a colleague much smarter than me says it is not.

Technically it is just tagging the frames for that specific client with the VLAN you select, at a layer-2 level. It will inject a 4-byte 802.1Q ethertype header in front of the normal ethertype header, before it sends it to the wire.

The ability to choose a VLAN and/or a Network type (IoT / Internet) so easily for specific clients is one of the features that sets Alta Labs APs apart from the rest.

I’ve not seen this feature in any other APs before. I was really suprised when I found it really does work!!
