We have a 3600 sq ft rambler with a basement, and a large pole barn about 100 ft from the home that we decided to install with Alta Labs! The home was prewired with CAT5E, but unfortunately the barn was not.
We are currently running an AP6 Pro and an AP6 in the house and the speed has been awesome. They are both located in central living rooms, and the coverage throughout the house is great (we recently changed from cable to fiber and decided doing a whole home WiFi upgrade now would make sense). We are a streaming family - TVs, Phones, Laptops, etc - and a son who works from home renting our basement. He needs reliable speed! I also have another son who games, so reliable internet is a must.
Here is the basement AP:
And here is the main floor AP:
The indoor APs are powered by the Alta Labs S8 POE switch! I love how clean this thing looks! Still need to build a shelf for it (waiting to swap out my netgear router for the Alta Router I hear is coming this year). We used some of the other ports to hard line computers and an Xbox throughout the house!
The biggest challenge I faced was figuring out how to get solid WiFi out to my barn - where I work on projects, and have recently built a golf simulator!
Alta Labs was a tempting option because I heard that their mesh WiFi capabilities are really good. We decided to put another AP6 under the car port in direct line with the main floor AP of the house. As long as we installed the mesh AP outside of the Barn (under the car port), the connection was strong, and the WiFi in the barn was good enough to run the golf simulator and our Google mini we use for music.
The golf simulator runs seamlessly on the Mesh AP. This includes downloading new courses, screen mirroring from my IPad to the projector, and scrolling the internet on your phone while you wait your turn!
We used a POE injector to power the mesh AP, and since we installed the AP outside, I decided to build a makeshift water protector just in case any water happens to fall inside the car port (it’s ugly but it works!).
Overall great experience. The cloud based management platform is so easy to navigate. Love that I could see right from the dashboard which AP the barn AP was meshing with speed data included. Would recommend to anyone to give Alta Labs a try!
