I understand all the reasons to prefer wired backhaul or 5g wireless backhaul. But this equipment is so user configurable, why is the wireless backhaul the exception? Sometimes the penetrating range of 2.4g is necessary
Yeah, definitely understandable why 5GHz would be preferred for any “meshing” capability although I’m all for providing additional options to allow for some flexibility in edge cases. Even if its’ a button to allow it with a big warning that the performance will probably not be good.
I don’t think it is an edge case, or edge cases are more common than one would expect. Deco xe75 mesh makes using 2.4g for backhaul a user choice. It warns that if you change it the access points might drop each other. Especially for IoT devices stability matters more than speed.
That’s fair! Edge case probably wasn’t the best phrase to use. Uncommon would probably be better, based on my own experience anyway.
I suppose relative to the number of users. 5% is rare, but is still 50,000 out of one million. I don’t know the customer base of Alta Labs, but I am sure they hope to scale up
