USB C for powering next revision of Route10

Will help customers of Route10 save space by ditching the existing barrel jack based power adapter that’s oversized and outdated.

Many of us already have 45W GAN power adapters and USB C cables at home, so this will help Alta save some cost and sell at different price points, all while providing options for prospective buyers

  • Lower price ($10 to $20 lower) for those who can supply their own power adapter
  • The alternative which would be the current price for all the other buyers who would just pay with an add-on option of an Alta USB C adapter

This will be an excellent go-to option than using up the hardware design for a Power over Ethernet port on the front (which will eat up a valuable port that could otherwise be used for another device connected for LAN).

That’s a good idea! Nice thinking outside of the box.

I think they could make a little ecosystem.

Their smaller devices could all be USB-C. Alta could make a USB-C PDU that could mount in a rack. Could be pretty neat!

With the PoE output I do not think this is an option tbh (and I do like the PoE+ on two ports)

Fully Agree

Personally would prefer PoE++ or inbuilt psu standard IEC socket

Using USB C for to supply power to the device is already an option from at least 2 bigger competitors already - their devices that has PoE out has been out for some time.

To get PoE+ would simply mean using a higher watt and change to only a smaller portion of the BOM and board. Not impossible.
