I am at the point where the iPhone sees the AltaBoost network and it tries to connect but it cant, it just continues over and over and nothing happens.
Has anyone experienced this? I installed as an IDP Anyroam and for OpenRoaming Profile Apps I used Global Ro.am
It never associated. It tries to access the WiFi Network but then it doesn’t, the process repeats endlessly until I just select another network to join,
Not safe to assume lol. I have a bridged connection with all the devices in the S8-POE. So the Alta Boost SSID needs to be isolated? I might have misread that in the guide.
No, it doesn’t have to be isolated. I asked because typically you’d put it on a VLAN so there’s no chance of AltaBoost users depleting your main DHCP pool.
With Telefónica (Movistar)Vodafone ES/DIGI, I was not able to connect successfully when following the steps outlined in the KB by Matt Baer: AltaBoost – Passpoint Setup
— the network prompts me for a username and password.
However, when I follow the KB guide published by Mike Dudgeon (OpenRoaming approach): Implementing Passpoint using OpenRoaming
I can connect with TelefĂłnica, Vodafone ES SIM cards
So far, only Mike’s method works flawlessly for me with Telefónica and Vodafone.
OpenRoaming and AltaBoost are two different entities using the same underlying technology: Passpoint.
In both cases, the individual phones have to have profiles installed on them in order to utilize the technology.
It would appear as though the profiles are installed for the AltaBoost side of things, this profile would be installed by the carrier in all scenarios.
Also, for reference
AltaBoost: Cellular offloading, only works with certain carriers, profile needs to be installed on the device
OpenRoaming: Nothing to do with cellular, profile needs to be installed on the device
These do share a zero-interaction method of connecting to WiFi, meaning that as long as the prerequisites are all checked, any device with the profile installed will automatically associate to the network.
