Switch Priority Questions // Sluggish network

We deployed our 3rd system! All was working well, until the home owner stated the next day after project completion, that many of the wireless devices were slow.Initial testing was great! The topology is the following.

Basement Rack //// Route10------S24-POE----AP6PRO (Ceiling Mounted in Basement)
2nd Floor /// AP6-PRO (MESH) connected to a S8 POE. Great back haul connection. Our goal is to connect the S8 POE later this year when phase 2 of the automation system is update. New new CAT pulled to this first floor room. But for now 2nd floor is mesh only.

The priority was set to default. On other switches, before using Alta Labs, we would always enable STP and set our core switch to 4096, 2nd switch to 8192, etc. Forgot to set this before we left. I did this remotely. I also reduced the power of 2.4Ghz to low to start. Left everything else auto. Most devices now connect via 5Ghz in the home.

Questions: Is this OK to do with a Meshed WAP providing networking to the S8-POE?
I noticed MSTP was default. I did not change this. Is this OK to leave? Default VLAN only.
Any other suggestions?

The issue is not really the ISP speeds. It is a very sluggish network. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Try scanning for interference in the Info tab of each AP, and run iperf3 tests across your LAN to isolate the issue.

Going back to my original questions.

1.) 4096 priority for core switch? Not default?
2.) 8192 for 2nd switch?

It’s not strictly necessary to define these values, and won’t have any impact on your throughput.

I assuming the first WAP that is a MESH connected WAP is going to have at least 50% less throughput? 5Ghz backplane shows a very strong connection of -57db.

Half-duplex is still over 250Mbps. Could you better describe what you mean by “sluggish”?

Any device connected to the meshed WAP takes forever to load websites on laptops, iPads, TV streaming devices. For example, Netflix on the Roku took 45 seconds to load.

Have you seen this suggestion in another thread?

Yes. I read that thread. Did not help.

We are going to wire this 8 port Alta Labs Switch to the S24POE switch later this week. This switch had the Wireless Mesh AP6PRO connected to it providing the meshed Wi-Fi.

QUESTION:

What is the best step when we physically connect the S8POE to the S24POE? Will the mesh turn itself off and connect via Ethernet?

Thanks!

That’s correct. Mesh is a fallback feature in case data cannot be carried over the wire, so the physical connection is preferred and cannot be overridden.
