Stacking 3 8poe switches

Hi all,

I have been contemplating for years to setup a homelab and a home rack
More now than ever is a good time
This said. I have kept up to date with alta labs since last year when you introduced your switches then AP’s and now the controller.
I love the look and cosmetics of all your hardware and would like to become a distributer at some point.
For now though I need some clarity and good constructive critisism about the use of stacking 3 (8 poes)
Have my heart set on a small rack running 3 of these, AL controller, 2 AP’s indoor and outdoor, 3 mini PC’s the coral accel and a few other accessories
I saw the 24 port had stacking so why not the 8?

Sure, i could go for a 24 but its to big for my setup

I am doing something similar. I only have two setup, but I also have three Unifi USW throughout my house that are wired back to these two switches. You HAVE to make sure there are no loops, even in the slightest, since I don’t think the 8 PoE has STP (if it does, it definitely failed for me…lol).

Here is a picture of the start of the project.

I am going to make a full post when I am “done”, but one is really never done with their homelab.

 true, true
Setup looks neat. Definetely looking forward to see the final result

Keep in mind the S8-PoE is passively cooled, so as long as you have airflow or space around the switches like @Ethan-DDI shows, you should be fine.

Can we confirm whether or not the S8-PoE supports STP at this time or not please?

Why do I want this mini rack!

You are not the only one…

I"m not sure we answered the original poster’s question… are you asking about software stacking like a Cisco switch where you logically combine the switches together?

@rutman286
Both
I had originally been influenced to have cisco, sophos, fortinet but when alta labs came on to the market I dreamed of building a mini rack with their equipment @WhyAydan
Low watt usage, sleek design, compact, does the job.
The firmware is easy to understand and their are plenty of options for advanced features

and yes, to this question

Don’t think too hard about it, or you’ll have one soon enough. :-/

Just waiting on my buddy to finish a couple of 3D printed items and I’ll share everything. Also waiting on the Alta router…of course.
