I’m changing to the fiber.nl provider in the Netherlands soon and I would love to be able to just hook up a route10 and ap7 to the ont and change some settings, add the VLAN and call it a day. Unfortunately, the reality is a bit more complicated. My provider stated they don’t officially support taking out their own modem because they use its serial number for authentication. They do suggest that i can do something called serial number spoofing and get it working that way. Bit of a long shot but does the route 10 support this?
Your new XGS-PON network uses an ONT, a modem is no longer in the conversation. Route10 will hook up to your network providers ONT without issue and can be configured as easily as you described. Their ONT might be looking for a serial number if you’re opting out of using their supplied router, but based on what you’ve written this isn’t the case.
You may be confusing this with the current “craze” to replace network providers ONTs with an ONT on a stick setup. You can do this through the use of a WAS-110 or X-ONU-SFPP and following instructions from the 8311 community wiki. The Route10 should work with either and there are posts on the forum you can read about this setup further.
Thanks for the info. It seems the ONT on a stick option is what they were pointing me too. The other option is using their modem in bridge to pass connection to route10. That’s extra power and a device that gets quite warm. Honestly it may be the better option but Id like to try the ont-on-a-stick option, just cause i get to tinker and try something new.
For KPN you can use a Zaram XGS-PON ONU SFP+, this probably also works at fiber.nl if you have XGS-PON The Zaram will not work with GPON. It is supposed to be using vlan 2 or 141 instead of vlan 6 at KPN. You will probably need to register the serial number at your provider. They are required by law in The Netherlands to cooperate with using your own module and providing you with settings, but not required to provide you any technical support. If they do not cooperate please follow the instructions at the ACM website (writing a letter etc.).

The Zaram would have my preference as well. However, fiber.nl stated their system is fully automated and i guess they cant register Zaram modules because they are a virtual provider. I know KPN and Odido do this so its a pity. They’ve only communicated the VLAN settings and said i could use spoofing to make it work but that is as far as their help extends. Im switching next week, hope i can make it work
