ServeTheHome Route10 Review

ServeTheHome has been doing some neat little tests and reviews on routers/firewalls as of late and they just released what I thought was a pretty even handed review on the Route10. Also includes some performance figures for anyone looking for some harder numbers on how much traffic can be pushed through it

Maybe lessons learned regarding the importance for true local management. While cloud management keeps things simplified, you’re marginalizing a significantly large consumer base for residential, commercial and enterprise.

I watched this video, he did really good, there are tons of haters on the comments but i bett you lots of those haters have cloud managed things or they love Merraki that does the same thing.

IMO if you don’t like it don’t use it, simple. I have tons of Route10’s and lots of hardware out for clients and it all runs fine. Have 3 route10 setups at home here too. All Fine!

I’ve had issues with failed ap6 ap’s but MEH it gets taken care of really fast and that to me is what maters. Everything electronic will fail at some point, if Alta takes it into their hands to RMA and fix the situation well WIN WIN !

You’re absolutely right. I for one no longer use the Route10 and I’m more than content knowing I have complete control of my network at the local level. No complaints on my end with any of their other products. But to your point, this might be an opportunity for Alta to see the comments and come to realization that there is in fact a base out there who prefer complete local management over cloud management.

I would love to see a local controller at least built into the router.

A local interface to see some basics and stuff would really be nice.

Same, I have a couple of good looking desk ornaments. Hoping for a change of mindset inside the Alta team.

Or at least provide us options until things are decided, if that. Don’t hold those hostage. I would gladly power the Route10 back up and operate it solely as a core switch rather than a Router if I had an option, but we can’t even do that natively. I get it, small company, growing pains, navigating through an already competitive segment. But feedback is crucial for both growth and direction. What’s most frustrating is there’s even a “feature-request” forum, which to me get’s glossed over. Nothing on there, even with the highest of votes to my knowledge has made it’s way to the platform. Why give the community false hopes? Just delete that forum if the true intent is to operate in a silo.

I use everything but their Router. What’s impressed me the most is the build quality, but software and execution certainly needs to be brought back to the drawing table.

Just my two cents.

Yes I use everything else too, love the hardware. I should soon be able to test this 10g switch out more. Just had a new server delivered to my house and i’m going to throw a 10g card in it.
