just trying out the S12 with Multi-gig SFP’s but in the port speed options it only gives 1G/10G as options? we are needing to set the SFP specifically to 5G to be able to establish a connection to the Firewall but Auto always tries to do it at 10G which breaks the connection
There are actually only two standard SFP speeds: 1.25 Gbps and 10 Gbps (mapped from 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps from the UI). If you have a module that claims to run at 5 Gbps, I’d be interested in knowing the make/model, since that’s not likely to be supported. Many modules will say they run at 5 Gbps, but the actual SFP+ speed is 10 Gbps.

Matt from support helped us work out that the Firewall vendor has ‘customised’ the SFP+ standard on their device to only support devices that run at 2.5G or 5G and wont accept any that run at 10G, which is very frustrating…
in the end we did find a module that worked, because it runs at a set 2.5G on SFP and RJ45 it was perfectly accepted as working in the firewall - ETU-LINK ES-T0-R-I
Sadly haven’t found one that runs at a set 5G so were limited to 2.5 for now, but its still a lot better than the 1G we were stuck at before.
This wouldn’t work with the Alta Lab’s switch, but did let us get the device online and working perfectly directly, so a big thank you to Matt for the assistance, will defiantly keep it in mind for future setups
I just did a validation of this therory of SFP @ 2.5. Using 4 modules.
1gig SFP modules that confirmed connection between 2 switches Fs.com SFP1G-SX-85 Connect both ends and fully functional with MM fiber
2.5gig Modules Failed connecction fs.com SFp2.5g-sx-85 no link.
Switches used Altalabs S12 Grandstream GWN7710R.
IMO 2.5gig modules are really PICKY and IMO also pointless because they are so pickyu. From what I have learned and talked about in Enterprise gear in classes is that the standard is 1g or 10g on fiber.
Maybe going forward in future 2.5 on fiber will be more supported in any manufactures pocket.
