Route10 temperature operating limits

Contemplating on the environmental specification which I found under

→ Specifications → Hardware → Environmental:

Ambient temp is approximately 23 to 30 deg C as I have placed it a bit high up in the laundry. Currently at appr. 23 deg C ambient, the Route10 is running at 46-48 deg C at very low utilization (hovering around 0.2-1.5% CPU usage). From what I interpret in the environmental specification, the operating limits is lowered to +45 deg C (from nominal +50 deg C) as I have plugged in one SFP-transceiver (in the SFP+ port) for incoming ISP and it is now running outside the operating limits?!

Is this normal? It seems like it would be impossible to use two, or even one, SFP ports and simultaneously stay within the operating limits. What are the implications of being outside the operating limits? Any forced reboots/shutdowns to be expected if I increase the utilization or ambient temperature increase pushes the Route10 temp further up? Do I need to add active cooling?

I think the operating temperature provided in the specifications is for the ambient temperature range that the Route10 will function in. So as your ambient temperature is 23C to 30C you are well below the 45C limit (for 1 SFP module).

I don’t know if Alta have officially said how high the actual Route10 temperature can go before it starts having issues.

Ah, of course. That makes much more sense. I blame the late night brain meltdown.
