Route10 feature set

Hello,

I’m considering moving from Unifi to AltaLabs and while I understand I will have to wait for certain hardware to become available, I want to confirm that the router features I need are currently supported or will be available in the near future.

I’m specifically looking for the following software features on the Route10:

  • WireGuard client support - Ability to connect to multiple remote servers simultaneously
  • Policy-based routing - Configure specific internal IP addresses to route through designated WireGuard connections
  • Port forwarding through WireGuard - Forward ports from the WireGuard server through to internal endpoints (for game server hosting)
  • WAN failover - Automatic failover between WAN connections
  • WAN2 routing - Route specific internal traffic exclusively through WAN2

Can anyone confirm if these features are currently supported or provide insight into their development timeline?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Figured I could try to answer at least a couple of your questions! Hopefully someone else can chime in on anything I don’t know or don’t use much. The datasheet for the Route10 does at least list of most of it’s features and the ones that are expected in the near term for reference: https://media.alta.inc/datasheet/Route10_Datasheet.pdf

  • I believe there is Wireguard client support, but I’m not sure if it supports connectings to multiple servers. I myself don’t use that particular functionality.
  • I think PBR is only supported to a certain extent from the CLI right now. Only the Alta Labs staff would be able to answer if there’s any kind of timeline for support being more fully added to the controller.
  • Some more info on PBR from the CLI: PBR with netifd
  • Definitely not sure on the port forwarding through Wireguard unfortunately
  • There is WAN failover although there’s some issues with failback that people have had to develop workarounds for. Some searching around the forum should surface those. Although the latest Alta live stream mentioned some additional fixes hopefully coming soon.
  • I think you could do this somewhat with either the CLI or static routing from the controller, although either would involve specifying something like a specific IP subnet. I don’t think you could specify a specific type of traffic, for instance.

Anyway, I hope that’s at least a little helpful!
