I was wondering if the Alta Labs team can provide a roadmap document that can be shared and updated with the community listing the route 10 features that the team are planning to bring and estimated timeframes as to when these features can be expected. I have been using the route 10 for a number of weeks but have found it to be lacking some features I had on my ER-12 or some of the current features are buggy. I also think it would be a good idea for the Alta Labs team to have a regular post informing the community of the bugs they acknowledge exist in the route 10 and when they expect those to be fixed. For me knowing what features or fixes are coming and when those updates are expected will help me invest more in the product
We maintain this list and periodically update the product page here to reflect completed features. You will find the same list in the datasheet also, found under the Resources section of the same page.
I appreciate your hard work and acknowledge your quick response, however I don’t feel it answers the questions I asked. I was already aware of the the pages you have directed me to but I feel it does not offer any timeline of when we can expect some of the promised additional features. Take for example DPI for all wired and wifi as promised by Alta-Jeff in DEC 24 ( Limited Traffic Monitoring with TP-Link Omada APs on Alta Control and Route10 - #7 by Alta-Jeff ) . Additionally, I personally have noticed some bugs (Hardware Acceleration and Vlans misreporting to list just two) that have already been reported to the team but I have no indication as to when these may be fixed or even if they are a priority for fixing in updated firmware. More transparency is needed from the team as to where their time/efforts are being focused in relation to future firmwares. The hardware of this device speaks for itself, unfortunately the software is currently creating a lot of negative comments. To me, and possibly most of the other early investors in this product , a clear plan of where the software development team are going and in what timeframe is what is missing. Simply saying something new is coming or a bug will be fixed in future updates does not fill the community with confidence. I’m sure the team is methodically dealing with the issues but it would be nice to offer the community some insight to your plan even at a high level. I believe that with the correct flow of information both I and the community can make informed decisions around the adoption (and recommendation to others) of this product.
@richardvaughan We definitely appreciate your feedback here! None of the issues, including acceleration issues, etc. has gone unnoticed internally. We still do plan on having most of the features listed as “post-launch” finished by the end of Q1 2025, but it is a balancing act, and I’m hopeful you can appreciate the fact that we cannot give much more detail than what we’ve provided already. There are some features, such as OpenVPN and NAT schedule, that may push in to Q2, but we are obviously trying to wrap up initial feature development for the platform so we can move on to other products, as well.
I hope that you’ve noticed that we’ve fixed several issues already as time has gone on without too much fanfare, and we continue to work directly with users on issues that are reported. Unfortunately there is no crystal ball that I can tell you when we will fix particular issues that may be seen as bugs, but we do look at every single issue reported, and consider them internally. If you are sharing the same issue yourself, it is best to make yourself heard on the particular forum post for that issue until it is resolved or better understood.
It might be worth to consider pushing a mass email out to all device registered users on updates, releases and their changes. This would ensure everyone is updated, especially those who are not tuned into the forums.
or,
Add a page on your main site with all of the versions, change logs, etc.
Thanks for your reply, I know you are extremely busy tweaking the Route 10 ATM and I appreciate your taking the time to respond. @Alta-Jeff / @Alta-Josh, The work you are doing on providing additional features and bug fixes is definitely not unnoticed by myself and I sure most of the community. It is really helpful to know that you do still plan on having most of the features listed as “post-launch” finished by the end of Q1 2025. This is a welcome insight to the proposed timeframe and would align with the expectations I had of the product when chosing to adopt early. As I said, I am experiencing a few gremlins / bugs that have already been reported but I will provide additional info on these myself as I understand the issues. Again, Thanks for you time and effort.
