Rename Network to Devices and Devices to Clients

Hi, is it just me or is a bit confusing?

I would prefer if the:

• Network tab is renamed to Devices to list all the alta labs devices in the environment
• Devices tab is renamed to Clients to list all the clients connecting to the network

Especially when you also have Top Active Devices & Top Active Network Devices

if you look at the URL for “devices” it says /clients/

Maybe this is in the works

When on “network” it says /sites/ which I think “devices” should be the change for the tab and the URL…

but 100% agree… after almost a year of using Alta I still click the wrong thing… LOL

Current URL & name

URL = “/dashboard/SiteName” Menu Name = Dashboard (same path segment and menu name)

URL = “/Site/SiteName” Menu Name = Network (Why are they different?)

URL = “/clients/SiteName” Menu Name = Devices (Why are they different?)

A less confusing URL & Name… (In my opinion…)

I am voting for the following: remove site from URL because the sitename is in the next path segment so now it would be

URL = “/devices/SiteName” Menu Name = Devices (What is currently network, this shows my Alta Devices)

URL = “clients/SiteName” Menu Name = Clients (Change the menu name here to match the URL path segment (these are my DHCP clients)

and the AI I have trained to think like me agrees with me… LOL

Love the suggestion, but our naming has been very intentional. Glad you can tell that we aren’t trying to follow conventional naming standards; it’s one thing (of many) that hopefully sets us apart.

I am going to be a little too honest here.

Naming is not and will never be something I care about for setting your product apart from anything else. I care about how my team can jump between platforms and use the same vocabulary across them as we rip out something and put your stuff in. I also won’t stop using Alta if the naming never changes… LOL

That said.. If you are being intentional about naming then why are the URL’s differnet from the tab name. And if that then I would expect this firmware warning would say.. You have “networks” that need updated. but your alert says devices… So true it up in url’s, alerts, tabs and such if you are being intentional.
