Hey Alta Labs Team & Community,
I wanted to share a mechanical mounting bracket proposal for the AP7-Pro that could also serve as a standardized mounting standard for upcoming Alta Labs access points.
While the AP7-Pro performance and sleek oval chassis are top-notch, enterprise installations on ladders, scaffolding, and drop ceilings often present drop risks when aligning or unmounting devices. To solve this, I have put together a Safety-First Hook-and-Latch mounting design.
Key Features & Design Breakdown
-
Anti-Drop Top Entry (Open U-Slots): The top of the bracket uses two open U-shaped hook slots. Installers hang the APs top fixed studs into these slots first. The AP hangs safely under its own weight, meaning it will not fall to the ground even if someone pulls or disengages the bottom release lever without holding the unit.
-
Fixed Integral Studs: 4x knurled metal mounting studs are permanently insert-molded into the rear casing of the AP. No loose screws or separate adapter plates needed during field deployment.
-
Rigid, Lightweight Steel Construction: Stamped 1.5 mm Cold Rolled Steel (SPCC) with deep-drawn reinforcement ribs. It remains completely non-bendable against uneven drywall or ceiling grids without adding unneeded weight.
-
6mm-8mm Thermal & Cable Clearance Gap: Precision offset bends create a built-in standoff gap. This allows convective airflow across the AP7-Pro
s rear aluminum heatsink and provides smooth routing space for thick CAT6/CAT6A PoE cables without sharp bends.
-
Tool-Less 3-Step Workflow:
- Hook: Drop top studs into open U-slots (AP hangs safely).
- Latch Pull: Pull the bottom/side quick-release spring lever.
- Snap & Lock: Swing the bottom flush and release the lever to snap-lock all 4 corners.
Why This Architecture?
- Field Safety: Eliminates accidental drops during high-ceiling mounting and servicing.
- Thermal & RF Compatibility: Keeps the structural frame rigid while preserving airflow over the aluminum bottom plate, with zero impact on forward Wi-Fi 7 antenna coverage.
- Ecosystem Standard: A standardized stud pattern across future Alta Labs hardware releases would allow a single, modular mounting plate across an entire product line.
Would love to hear what the community and the Alta Labs team think about this concept!
