Is there a way to have a meshed AP only connect to a specific wired AP? Locking it to one AP?
Also, can you provide details on the meshing itself? How is an AP that is configured for mesh connecting to a wired AP? Is it using 2.4, 5 or both (dependent on the radios enabled on the meshed AP)? IPv4, IPv6?
@carrottspc You can enabled and disable mesh on a per AP basis within it’s settings. This will help you keep the AP(s) meshing to just the ones you want it to mesh to.
As for how it works, it uses the 5GHz radio for mesh. So you need to have at least one active SSID that broadcasts on 5GHz. It supports both IPv4 and IPv6.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
@Alta-Chase, something there doesn’t make sense. I’ve enabled mesh on only one access point. All others do not have mesh enabled. That one access point connects wirelessly to one of the other wired access points over that 5GHz meshed link. That meshed access point chooses to connect to the best connection it can see based on signal strength, which is typically an AP 16 feet away through a wall or another which is about 20 feet away through a wall & higher up. I do not have a choice of which one it connects to, it does it all on its own. I would like it to choose only the closer one, since it provides approximately 8-10dBm better signal strength.
I also want to do this… I have an AP that keeps connecting to an AP that is way to far away when there is another much closer…
Where you able to solve this?
No one else responded from Alta side. I’ve since removed the meshed AP for now.
