Looks great! But not…

After 4 frustrating hours trying to set up the Route10, I’ve given up. In all my years working in networking, I’ve never dealt with such a poorly designed product. It requires a DHCP internet connection to complete setup, so if you’re using PPPoE, you get stuck in a setup loop with no way to proceed.

Yeah, frustrating. On paper this should be an excellent product at the price point but for me some lingering bugs just keep beating down this product. Development and implementation of additional features seem to be at a standstill with no recent firmware updates. Might be time to consider other options.

Last firmware release was about a month ago. Not sure that I’d want faster than that.

Standstill? They release updates and improvements all the time, plus, are very informative on what’s coming and have great tech support for any other questions.

What do you mean? I configured my Route10 with PPPoE without any issues or problems on the first try. So I don’t know where your problems are coming from or what they are. It works perfectly fine for me.

Sorry to read about your frustration with the setup process. The first 2000 units that were manufactured have older Bluetooth firmware that does not allow mobile app setup. This specific process is only required if you use the mobile app to setup the Route10. It does not affect local setup.

If you wish to avoid that, wire a device to a LAN port on Route10 and proceed with local setup by visiting 192.168.1.1 from a browser and following the steps there. We also have a guide which shows the local process through screenshots, found HERE. Local setup will work just fine for any connection type including PPPoE, and then you can add it to your site on manage.alta.inc afterwards. You can upgrade the firmware once it’s set up, and that will update the Bluetooth firmware (albeit, that won’t really matter as it’s already set up).

Just like Rasputin and probably many other users, I had no problem establishing a connection via PPPoE. The second connection is configured with DHCP as a backup link—no issues there either. Maybe you should explain exactly where the problem is.
