Just wanted to see if there is anything inherently blocking local DNS as resolvable. If I set my dhcp provided DNS to my local adguard server I cannot resolve any hosts and Adguard itself is unable to resolve anything as well which is really weird as I have it pointed straight at google the same as when I set google on my LAN it all works. Just curious. Also shoutout to the MAC cloning function that really made life easy for me with my stupid CGNAT bypass crap I have to deal with. Thanks!
See here, latest firmware 1.4g broke user specified DNS Route10 - 1.4g firmware breaks custom DNS - #21 by LosSantosPro
This is not related.
If your Adguard server cannot resolve domains, there is most likely an issue with that server itself.
I’ve been been having the same issue with Technitium.
I’ve noticed when there are dns issues, my dns server “lost” its ip address.
I’ve narrowed it down to dhcp.
Now I’m stuck at DHCP 4/6 is causing my issue.
Whats working for me:
I set ip directly in my server vs doing in my router (Alta).
Give it a shot may work for you also so far 3 days going no issues.
Ill give that a try, my understanding is that ALTA does not support custom DNS as it can affect the device ability to reach their cloud console @Alta-Josh can you comment on this, there has been an update since this post and I am game to try again with this device but I need some comfort here.
If you were seeing that behavior and setting the DNS addresses on the WAN then there’s now the option to disable the DNS over HTTPS (DoH) setting as of firmware 1.4h on the Route10: Route10 Firmware 1.4h Released!
This is local DNS I want to use adguard home @jmszuch
I use pihole just fine, just make sure ping.alta doesnt get blocked and you will be fine.
OK! Just wanted to be sure. If DNS is handled by a local DNS server and assigned to clients via DHCP then I wouldn’t expect any problems. I have a couple of sites with a Windows Domain Controller and they work without a hitch that way
Can confirm using a local DNS is working as it should and swapping my OPNSense gateway for the Route10 was a drop in replacement, very impressed with how fast it is now.
