I have bought 3xAP6 access points and S8-PoE switch to power them.
Finally over Christmas holidays i had time to set everything up and set up local controller in docker.
I have OpenWRT local router and Local controller is running in Proxmox - Alpine Linux VM - docker.
The local controller is on 1.0p version.
The situation.
At first only one of access points had 2.x firmware and I was able to set up on local controller, but then i used cloud controller to update the firmware. It worked and now all op AP6s runs on 2.2e firmware and are connected to local controller and working.
The only problem is the S8-PoE switch. It came with 2.1i firmware and was not able to be set up on local controller, then i updated it via cloud controller to 2.1p firmware, but in local controller it still shows as disconnected.
Did you delete the S8-POE from the cloud site using the trash icon on the far right-hand column? What configurations may have been changed while you were setting up your site?
The disconnected label generally implies that the device is unable to ping the controller, which additionally tends to indicate a configuration or local networking issue. We want to try and rule those out.
After it updated its firmware via cloud controller, I deleted it form cloud controller and refreshed local controller. When the set-up option showed up on local controller I tried it, but it showed as disconnected while the AP6 connected.
Then I deleted it form local controller. Reset the S8-POE and tried again, but still the same.
Before i connected them to cloud controller i firstly set up the local controller and tried on it, but it didn’t worked, so then i tried online controller and all connected. When the after firmware update deleted from cloud and tried to connect to local controller, all APs connected except S8-POE.
Network configuration in that time did not change.
After that I added SSH Key to cloud controller and ssh@root… into S8-POE to see if it can ping the local controller IP and it can.
So you are able to reach the S8-POE over SSH and even ping out of it to the rest of the network? This suggests the configuration was successfully provisioned, so the device is setup and adopted.
Maybe we can try from a power-on reset state. See the LED Patterns for Switches article for instructions.
Add the S8-POE to cloud controller, so it can receive SSH key.
Test if ssh root&192.168.x.x works. (It did)
Then delete it form cloud controller.
Add it to the local controller and ssh in it again and one of the AP6 to see if there is any difference.
AP6 and S8-POE can ping each other and they can ping the local controller IP.
About Factory reset
I did it several time to test multiple scenarios.
It always rolled back to 2.1i firmware.
I delete it from local controller and do the set up again, but it shows as disconnected. LED is white.
Could you confirm this after performing the Power-on Reset steps, as well as deleting the device from the site in the controller? Then, you should see the purple set up button in the controller again. Clicking that will adopt and provision the switch. This is when we want to see if you are able to reach the device on the LAN and SSH into it. If the AP is still adopted and provisioned with the cloud site’s configuration, then it will pollute the data.
I can SSH only when S8-POE is set up on cloud controller.
I deleted it and did the Power-on Reset steps.
I pressed set-up on local controller. (Still shows disconnected)
Is can access it on web browser via IP. (See picture below)
It’s not clear to me how only the switch would end up in this state.
If you do not use the setup button after the factory reset, can you locate the switch on your LAN anyway? It should still receive a valid IPv4 address from the DHCP server. If so, we could try using its web ui again to input the controller URL before trying to use the setup button directly.
I have no idea too. Tried everything i can imagine.
The Switch receives valid IPv4 from the DHCP server. I can access the web ui before set up on controller.
I did the Factory reset again and input the URL in web ui, but nothing changed.
The web ui stays in Set Controller URL: page.
After that pressing the set up on local controller, still the same - shows as disconnected.
Deleted from cloud controller. Waited for a moment, to see the booth on local and cloud controller again. Tried to set-up on local controller (new site) - still shows as disconnected.
Deleted from local controller and set-up on cloud controller (new site), everything connected, did the firmware update to 2.1p.
After update deleted from cloud controller (new site) and tried the set-up on local controller (new site). Sill the same, shows as disconnected.
Sometimes when I do just regular reset after while the S8-POE logo starts flashing red and stays like that. After disconnecting / reconnecting power It boot back up to normal white logo. but it stays disconnected both in local or cloud controller. To get it connected to cloud controller I need to do Power-on reset.
