Is the fan on the S48-APOE supposed to be loud? :grimacing:

It was a question I asked during a live YouTube presentation, but they didn’t have an answer yet. I know that the S24 was around 55dB, if I’m not wrong. I changed the 2 fans with Noctua ones to reduce the noise to 40-45dB. Since I have my rack in my office, it helps a lot. In a case where the switch is in a rack in a closet, garage, or in a server room, this should be fine.

I did a video on changing fans if it is something that interests you.

Please note that the device is no longer guaranteed after this modification (if I’m not mistaken).

I hope it helps and answers your question.

That is good to know. The switch will be in an open rack in the office in the home I’m currently building. I’m building out the rack while we finish the build - been using the switch a couple weeks - initially no fan sound - then I unboxed a PDU for testing more gear and when I powered up the switch the fan sound started.

At idle it has no fan noise and I’m going to be testing tonight with about 12-13 poe devices if varying draw but mostly about 10-12 watts each. Have an old poe unfi switch going to plug into it as well as a fair large draw security camera. So far I am liking it though. Draws about 24watts at idle.

Weird. I’d been using the switch a couple weeks - initially no fan sound - then I unboxed a PDU for testing more gear and when I powered up the switch the fan sound started.
