I noticed that the WAN port appeared with some information on the Devices list. It’s probably been blank before, because I haven’t even noticed it. This happened simultaneous with the batch of firmware updates yesterday.
I noticed two things for that device/port:
- VLAN is listed as 1, though there is no VLAN set in the settings (Settings → WAN) for that particular WAN port. I’m confused about that VLAN listing.
- The Public IP shown ends with .1. Meanwhile, eth4 is shown as .54. A check for my public IP on the web shows that same .54. Confused about this too…

Anyone who can explain why there is a difference?
Thanks!
So, the x.1 is basically the gateway at the ISP’s end, that my WAN connects to. And it is shown as a client in the devices list. Is that a correct interpretation?
It’s definite a device connected to the Route10, but you’re right, we should probably flag it as a WAN device.
Yes, agree, it’s definitely a device connected to the Route10. Merely trying to understand what is what and I was contemplating on what the “device” actually indicated.
I agree, some sort of indicator of it being a WAN-device would perhaps be a good idea.
I know it’s a bit of nitpicking, but one could argue that other devices connected to the Route10, like APs and switches should also be allowed in on the Device list. But I’m sure you have some well founded design decisions regarding the content of the Network and Device list.
BTW, I actually saw one of the switches I set up today as part of the Device list. It was named Alta, but it got masked after a very short while after being properly installed, updated and up and running.
