Hi team,
Here are some GUI thoughts after running Alta APs for over 1 1/2 year and now also on route 10 and switches. I have had no issues what so ever but I would like to see some GUI improvements.
Dashboard Tab
Network Activity Chart
The “Devices” button currently adds little value — consider replacing it.
Instead, enhance the chart by adding a bar chart that shows the number of connected clients over time, alongside the existing line chart for network activity. This combination would provide a more insightful overview.
If implemented, the “Devices” button can be removed.
Remove the gray border around this section to align visually with the other data fields (excluding lists, which retain the border).
Also on the Dashboard
Introduce a topology and health summary section (not just the Map) to show the environment at a glance — e.g., “1 router, 6 switches, 24 APs” — with health indicators (green/yellow/red).
Include key client metrics such as retries, signal strength, and health status.
I want to have full visibility over the general environment.
Consider also showing:
All-time high (ATH) bandwidth
Application usage
Connected client trends
Breakdown of wired vs. Wi-Fi clients
Timestamps for relevant metrics
Top Active Devices and clients
My W1 port is my ISP and that is always on top of the devices and client list… Its just a combination of basically all my in and outbound traffic. Not sure it shall be displayed as a client…?
Network Tab
Make the device settings panel sticky on the far right as an optional view, to avoid multiple small pop-up windows. When hovering a port the clients are in a small black box thats impossible to navigate and read…
Allow the user to save their preferred device sort order. For example: router at the top, followed by switches, then APs — reflecting the mental topology.
Add a new column for uptime.
When hovering over the firmware version, show the date and time of the last update installed.
** Map tab**
Make it so the ISP port is placed on the left side of the route 10…
Unified Settings
When managing a full environment (router, switch, and APs), it would be helpful to have all related settings accessible from a central location — such as under the controller’s settings — rather than navigating into each device separately. This would provide a more coherent and efficient experience.
I’m in discussion with 2 neighbours and a few friends to swap out their old stuff and bring in some Alta equipment instead. 1 friend owns a residential building so we are planning to to deploy this for 7 apartments, basement and backyard. Some of my other friends did not like the GUI and “design language” so they will stick with Ubiquiti but was really impressed by the AltaPass feature. Maybe in the future…
Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
