Automatic upgrades should be disabled by default and only enabled manually when desired.
Forget about automatic disabling. How about the controller updating with Auto-Update off and against the end user’s consent.
I got a little bit confused Perhaps multiple requests are needed?
- Add a setting for controlling auto-updates for the On-premises Control device, OR
- Honor the auto-update setting for the On-premises Control device also.
AND
- Disable setting for auto-updates by default when setting up a new site as well as adding an On-premises Control device.
What’s concerning is that no one has addressed this. Not one person. Instead, the thread has been bumped off the main page.
Hopefully Alta has got it on their radar after you’ve highlighted it a few times. But I agree, there has not been much of an official response to your concerns, though.
It is possible to manually disable the automatic updates by moving the file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99access
or clearing its contents.
Thanks. Is this being provided as a quick resolution for those interested? Or is this actually being addressed on the next or future release?
Yes, temporary/immediate workaround for those who want to implement now, and I can confirm that we do plan to add this to Control in a future update.
