Block wifi access via MAC address. Switch function that I can enable/disable access per device via MAC address.
I want to block wifi access to my son’s laptop, but only when I turn access on it will allow him.
So he could still connect to wifi but no traffic would be allowed when block is enabled and traffic will be allowed when disabled. Would be good to have this function in same menu where you can limit the download/upload limits.
Have you tried to setup a separate wifi and use the scheduling functionality?
I have not tried it myself but you should be able to do what you want while also having a solution that works even mac changes (mac randomization or manual change).
Yeah I did have this, the problem is my kids always tend to work out the wifi pw eventually and login.
So I stopped that, and was hoping for a more simplified solution via MAC enabling traffic on or off
I think you can do this today but you are missing a component which is the Network policy server. You can set up your wifi to connect to a radius. Set up a Packetfence instance and point the wifi to that for the radius. Then in Packetfence you can create profiles for devices as well as policies like times for access etc. I have been meaning to try this as a lab but it hasn’t made it high on the priority list. If if do, ill maybe post about it. Im just not sure how far Alta took the 802.1X implementation and if they support Change of Authorization (CoA). Maybe someone around here has already tried this out.
