Fast roaming is on on my SSID. I did notice when I rebooted two AP’s that it won’t go to the closest AP (because the second AP was the one which I restarted first). When I click on reconnect everything goes to the closest AP. Is there a way to force this faster?
I need to do now 20 clicks (difference devices) before it goes to the closest AP. I hope there is some tweaking I can do?
So Fast Roaming will only really help with capable devices. The ones that aren’t capable will ignore the mobility extensions. Even then it’s technically still up to the client station to decide on what it wants to do, and if the signal is good from its perspective then it’s less likely to roam.
Might be worth checking the signal overlap, at least as a place to start. There are apps or software to do that, but platform support varies. Even a scan may be suffice as it would at least tell you how it looks from AP <> AP. If the overlap is too strong then that could be a cause. I would suspect if you let it sit you would see devices start switching over, it just may not be quick (especially for anything that doesn’t support 802.11r).
