Can we set multiple DNS servers on the router? Or can multiple access points be set to point to different DNS servers? I want kids devices to point to opendns/cleanbrowsing for filtering or my adguard home server and unfiltered devices to point to cloud flare or Google.
Off hand, I don’t think so, at least not in the way being described.
My initial thought would be to create a VLAN and combine that with the Alta Pass feature. The VLAN could then be configured to hand out the appropriate DNS servers to any devices connecting with the associated password for the wireless network.
So your kids devices would connect to the WiFi using the kids password, which would drop them on to the associated VLAN where they would be given the appropriate DNS servers. Unfiltered devices would use a different password to connect and get a different IP address and DNS server.
Hopefully that makes some amount of sense!
Yeah that sounds ok. I really need to get some kit and test it. Doing my research before I purchase anything. We install a lot of this gear through work but never have time to dive into the settings
No worries! I actually just spotted this video from Alta Labs that’s a pretty solid demonstration of what I was talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgMgEpBYNaI&t
It’s a little more complex because they’re setting up a switch as well, but it looks like it includes a demonstration on what setting up a VLAN, the VLAN settings, and an associated WiFi password would look like.
