Disabling DPI doesn't fully disable DPI?

Upon disabling the DPI engine I have noticed that the DPI statistics keeps on updating for the APs even after the one minute wash out of data. It doesn’t seem to be fully disabled as it still presents and updates data in the drop down section for DPI under Info for the respective AP. However, the presented data is way less than what is achieved when DPI is on.

When disabled, shouldn’t it preferably be disabled altogether and DPI data be zeroed?

That behavior makes me think of the way another vendor handles DPI via their access points, which is to offer either full DPI or a lighter weight “Summary” mode.

I wonder if that’s what’s going on? Hopefully one of the Alta staff will chime in to clarify

When the DPI engine is disabled, previously gathered data can still be retrieved, but the DPI module will be completely unloaded for future statistics. Please let me know if this doesn’t match what you are seeing.

@Alta-Jeff,

DPI to OFF

then

@ ~5 sec

@ ~50-55 sec

@ ~65-70 sec

@ ~2 min

@ ~6 min

So, apparently some minor changes are still happening to the statistics output even after the one minute data wash-out (my interpretation) has passed.

I’m on On-premises Control HW. AP is AP6 Pro, connected through Switch S8 to Route10. Did another check where I ran a speedtest, and it saturated the pie chart while DPI On, and did not get captured at all while Off.
