DHCP server stops responding

I have a windows 11 notebook that periodocally looses the ability to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. The WiFi lan adapter then reverts back to a 169.254.x.x APIPA address.

If I reboot the access points (not the router, not the switch, all I have to reboot is the APs) then I can obtain a lease.

Thoughts?
Thanks,
Kelly

Hello Kelly,

Are the other devices on your network able to get DHCP no problem? Wired and wireless.

I have not tested that yet. It has happened twice on this device. It seems like my wireless cameras are all on line then. It did not happen with the previous access point with this device (an Archer A7 AC1750).

When you have the time, please see if it’s the same case on other devices. Rebooting the AP is also worth a try.

Are also using an Alta Labs switch and/or Route10 to connect the access point?

Rebooting the AP is the only thing that has worked, but I have to reboot both APs or the laptop just switches over to the other and still has the same issue. I have the evaluation kit so I’m using a route10, the 8port switch, and ap6 pro and ap6. Other than Optimum router, everything else is Alta.

Can you invite me to your site so I can see your configuration? I can PM you details on how to do that.

Let me know what you think. It’s pretty much just out of the box right now.

Which AP is causing that issue?

Your site configuration looks fine. Just to confirm, the Optimum router is your ISP on WAN1?

Also, have you tried to “forget” the SSID on the Windows 11 notebook and reconnect?

Yes, the Optimum router is the ISP on WAN1. I am going to change over to bridge mode. I don’t use their router at all.

The “forget” is a great suggestion and I have tried that. When replacing the old AP with the Alta equipment I used the same SSID. Could be something related to that.

Okay, when you can, please let us know if that helped stabilize the connection.

Forget and re-learn seems to have done it. I hate windows machines. There is so much behind the scenes stuff going on.
