Hi there,
I’ve been running 3 x AP6-Pro access points at home for the last couple of months, which has overall been a good experience.
However tonight I noted an access point offline.
All the AP’s are powered via Aruba switches, and in checking the switch I can see a PoE fault, reason ‘underload’.
The switch is immediately throwing this on any port I connect the AP to.
I have tested and seen the same experience on another Aruba switch, and my Alta S8-PoE just flashes a single orange LED and will not power on the AP either.
I’ve seen a few posts about failures / dead AP’s, however I’m wondering if anyone else on here has seen the same PoE fault occur?
Luckily for me I have a spare at work, off to start the RMA process …
@4UCSLiam Thanks for the note! I’m sorry you are having an issue with one of your APs. I will send you a DM to snag some serial numbers from you and to try a few additional troubleshooting steps.
Is this a known bug that can fixed. Or only some batches get this issue?
Nothing conclusive at this time. Our overall failure rates are still very low, but we are analyzing every single unexpected failure that is reported to us. If a pattern emerges then we will take measures to address that.
Some devices are recoverable. The emergency recovery process is called Power-on-Reset recovery (or PoR). It takes several minutes to recover a device, and if it’s not recoverable you generally know within about 30 seconds.
- Power down the problematic device. Easiest to just disconnect Ethernet from the AP.
- Wait 2-3 seconds, then press and hold reset.
- Reconnect Ethernet while continuing to hold reset.
- Continue holding reset for 10 seconds, and then release.
- The process should take a few minutes, and in the end it should have a solid white LED.
Here is a video showing the process: AP LEDs and Firmware Recovery.MOV - Google Drive
If the AP LED does nothing during/after this process, and was previously working, then that may be an indicator that it is no longer functional. Obviously if you encounter any issues, please reach out to us either here or via one of the support channels and we’ll be happy to assist.
