From what I understand, the auto-update you can disable ONLY applies to the network hardware. The controller update is not disabled. I do not believe that option has ever been implemented.
I am not saying it is right or wrong, I am just pointing out the intent of the current toggle.
I’ve learned one too many times with firmware and software upgrades that new releases will almost always cause gremlins elsewhere, hence why I never jump on new releases until things have been vetted out.
