Challenging install due to remodel contractor

An existing client just purchased a new home on Palm Beach Island that was recently remodelled. The remodeling contractor didn’t see the value of prewiring for much of anything, so we had to get creative. The equipment closet was located under the stairs with no conduit or access to the second floor, so we had to get creative. We managed to hijack one of the upstairs television’s CAT wires to add a second floor switch which allowed us to add cameras and access points for the 2nd floor and exterior. This part of the island has awful cell reception, so we added an outdoor AP to the front and back of the house. The install and implementation was not conventional or ideal, but everything ended up working out splendidly in the end.

Clean install.

The “think outside the box” type of projects were those I cherished the most. Momentous moments for sure.

MoCA is always your friend as well if there’s any RG59/6 available next time. I’ve confirmed preliminary functionality over the Alta ecosystem.

Cheers!

Yeah low voltage is always an after thought or it gets done poorly by electricians. Hear stories from friends about calls they get from people saying drywall is going up tomorrow wanting a whole house pulled in an hour.

Side note: be careful of stacking the Sonos amps like that. May not matter with 3 but 4 high side by side basically turns it into a giant thermal mass and it can get hot. We had a weird Sonos issue once after install with an amp cutting out. Turns out the amp was going into thermal protect.

Good catch! Those Sonos were existing units and setup that way by the last guy. Not sure if my guy restacked those, but I’ll make sure he does. Thanks!

The old head end got burried in the wall (not even sure where), and there were no RG6 in any locations except the family room I believe. I too have had great luck with moca when in a pinch. Thanks!
