Blink Cameras - lessons learned

Posting this in case someone has issues in the future.

I’ve been a long time user of Blink cameras. They’re not ideal, but they’re good enough, and I can’t easily get an ethernet cable to most of the outside area. There is no soffit and I didn’t want to drill through the siding.

I recently replaced my existing TP-Link network with an Alta NFR kit for testing the product. Installation was very easy, but some of my Blink external cameras simply would not connect.

I found that by creating a seperate SSID that was 2GHz only, they started working again.

We can’t reproduce the same issue here in our lab, so it’ very interesting to hear that you would need to create a separate SSID. Do you have the exact model of the Blink camera that you had the issue on?

These are the old XT2 (gen 2) cameras (I think the newest are gen 4) and they were near the fringe of the network (-72dB and -76dB).

Re-paring the sync module with the new 2GHz only SSID made them work.

They would also work if I moved the AP just a little closer to the cameras. The Blinks are strange little beasties. They have their own closed loop wireless network but they also utilize a standard Wi-Fi network.

Did you want me to try reconnecting back to the original SSID? Maybe like the windows laptop, I had to disconnect and reconnect to make the changes permanent.
