Hi, I have had, for a couple of years, a wired AP6 Pro (wap1) and a meshed AP6 AP (wap2) that were working just fine. Recently, I noticed wap2 was offline and would not reconnect to wap1. I factory reset it, no change.
I have since wired wap2 and it’s up and operating just fine. Every time I unplug the ethernet cable, clients are still connected but it’s not meshing with wap1, so no traffic in/out of internet is possible.
While continuing the troubleshoot, I notice that all wireless clients connected to wap1 are on ch 6 2.4Ghz only. When I run a quick or full scan for wap1, i see the status of both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels so the 5Ghz radio in wap1 is evidently still alive.
I just perhaps connected the dots that’s why wap2 won’t mesh with wap1 is that it requires a 5Ghz connection?
Any ideas how to resolve this or futher troubleshoot?
Thanks

I think the meshing does typically require the 5GHz band, specifically for performance reasons.
Something to do that might help confirm if the 5GHz is acting up would be to try setting up an SSID on just the 5GHz band with WAP1 and then trying to connect a device to that SSID. If it doesn’t show up or doesn’t connect then that might better indicate a problem with that AP.

Thanks for the reply. I created a new SSID, disabled 5Ghz radios on wap2. All clients reconnect to a mix of wap1/wap2 but there are zero 5Ghz connections.
I believe it confirms that 5Ghz simply isn’t working on my AP6 Pro named wap1. Odd that is scans frequencies and shows results for 5Ghz channels, but it surely isn’t allowing any 5Ghz connections.
Thanks
If you can shift-click on the name of the AP in manage.alta.inc , then run iw phy and post the output here, we can see if the 5 GHz radio is working.

Looks like the 5 GHz radio is at least enumerating to the system, and functional.
The most common issue at this point is likely one of a few things:
Your SSID’s and your AP’s colors do not match up. You can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZBzZWr5iEY for guidance on this.
Your 5 GHz radio is disabled on your AP (click on the AP’s name in the Network page, then look at the channel by 5 GHz.
You have the band set to 2 GHz only on the SSID (Settings→WiFi→Your SSID→Advanced Settings)

Hi, as requested:
my switch, both access points, and wifi SSID’s are all using the default black… Screen shots attached.
5Ghz radios are set to auto/auto and wap1 is on 5Ghz channel 52 as can be seen in the attached screen shot.
It’s set to both as can be seen in the attached screen shot.
Any other ideas or info I can provide?
Thanks
