Hi,
I’m thinking of changing my home WiFi system to Alta Labs. I currently have a Grandstream system and especially an outdoor unit which covers my lawn. For a project for a friend i got two AP6 Pro over that i’m going to start out with. The outdoor AP i have right now mounted on a 50 mm pole is an GWN7630LR which has an IP66 rating. I see that the AP6 Pro has an IP54 rating - will that do for an 24/7 outdoor mounted on the house wall?
I’m reading the specs for IP54 and it seems to be enough, but has anyone tried it?
One of my customers has Mikrotik wap ac’s mounted to the outside of a farm house.
They’re IP54 rated and as long as you don’t spray them with like a powerful garden hose (powerful jet) they will survive.
One of them was just standing on the window sill for a while and got a lot of rain (and even thunderstorms).
No issue there.
It depends on what weather is to be expected at that location. For example, they won’t survive a flooding or a sandstorm
If you’re unsure Alta also has AP6-Pro-Outdoor’s which are IP68 and tested for -40C to +70C (-40 to 158° F). Couldnt find a tested temperature for the normal pros.
Which for my customers is actually more important as they do usually see temperatures of -20C in Winter
Thanks for your answer. I live in northern Europe which means temperatures down to -25C but its pretty protected by the overhang of the roof, but will get some rain and snow from above. I’m aware of the Outdoor model and i will probably upgrade if i make the switch, but for testing it seems its okay to try with the AP6 Pro on the mount outdoor for a while.
If you got experience with the “normal” Pro at -25C I’d like to hear
But if your AP is protected by the overhang, then I think IP54 should be sufficient.
