AP6 3 units bricked - dead after power failure

Hi everyone,

Over the last three months, I installed four AP6 units for two of my clients. After a recent power failure at both of the clients sites, three out of the four units got bricked. I’ve now initiated an RMA process with my provider.

All the units were powered using a MaxLink PI30 PoE injector, and it seems very unusual to lose three out of four units due to a power failure.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Hello, I have 7 AP6-Pro and have already replaced 4 of them, same problem, power failure and then no function, but now I have to say that I haven’t had any failures for months.

Regards, Thomas

Hello, I have already exchanged everything via RMA, the network with AP6 Pro and 24 port switch from Alta Labs works very well. And I am very happy with this product. I am currently looking for an AP6 Pro outdoor for the garden :slight_smile:

fiber optic is currently being laid in our town and I hope that we will get fiber optic in the next 2 months :slight_smile: then we can test the network better :slight_smile:

So the replaced units handled power interruption without any new drama?

Since then I haven’t had any problems with restarts or power outages. The AP6 Pro didn’t fail all at once, but one after the other. Maybe it was just a stupid coincidence. But since then I haven’t had any problems.

In my environment, power outages happen once a week, even with a UPS protecting the units, so it is inevitable for the AP6 units to lose power From your answer, I assume that this issue is not unusual for some batches and has now been fixed, because I really don’t want to RMA units every few months. is the problem - bricked after power outage- fixed ;

I currently have no problems with the AP6-Pro. I am very satisfied with the product and the performance

How do we know what batches are affected by these?

This is the most important question . I am afraide to trust altalabs again because of this … how do i know the “new” units are not going to bricked again.

Yes, 2 year nontransferrable warranty makes it harder.

Previously they said they were reaching out to people affected directly.

@grhookgr We did confirm that the failures were related to an isolated batch of APs from early 2023. We know exactly which batch, and its not the entire batch. Rather there is a small subset of units that see a failure when the AP sees a power surge/reset. We have been proactively removing these from our distribution channels and replacing the suspected units. If you buy anything from our distributors now, you shouldn’t see any of the units in question. That being said, if you do have a failure that occurs from a previous install and its outside the two year warranty period, if you provide us the serial number we can confirm if its related to the known issue and we will still honor the warranty. @ebrunn Is correct in that we work directly with anyone that sees a failure.

@grhookgr Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to resolve your concerns here.
