Hi there,
I had planned to fit three ap 6 via a so8 network switch. After fitting two the third cat 6 I had run has been damaged! So at the moment I am only left with two. Is there a way to utilise the third Ap without the cable infrastructure possibly making it a mesh from another Ap. How could I power up that third Ap as I am sure you cannot split Ethernet cable.
Sorry if this sounds vague, networking is not my strong point and just trying to fit it in my house as a side project instead of plug in extenders.
PoE is your only option. But you can pair that one AP6 with a S8-PoE Switch and a short patch cable. Then run that one in mesh. But note that nothing beats cable :D. (If you can, just re run that cable).
Solid advice. Another option is to pick up a 803.3at/PoE+ (those terms are synonymous, just stating all the options as it depends on the branding as to what is stated on the box) PoE injector. That way you can put the AP anywhere within 100m of a regular power outlet and then use it as a meshed AP.
Yes, the best option is to re-run the cable.
Agree with Matt. You can power it via a POE injector and mesh it to the next closest AP. You won’t get the full performance but you can still temporarily extend the range of your network while you rerun the cable.
