Alta Labs VS UniFi

Hi im working on an assgin meant and I am looking at pros and cons between Alta and UniFi.

specifically I’m looking at the U6 Pro vs AP6 Pro and U6+ vs AP6.

Can anyone help me with the pros and cons for each. i haven’t had an opportunity to work with UniFi before, but have worked a bit with Alta

I have been using Unifi APs since 2012 and this is the first time in 12 years i have swapped to another brand, for more than 3 months.

I had both Unifi U6 Pro and U6+ installed in my house, before i swapped to AP6 pro and AP6.

To keep it short, the software and mobile app is better on unifi.
The Wifi hardware and firmware is better on Alta Labs.

The speed and connection stability is overall faster for Alta. I also feel that firmware updates have been better on Alta than Unifi
I guess that’s because Unifi needs to counter inn 15 years of hardware when building firmware.

As for pricing, I think both the U6-Pro and AP6-Pro is around 179$.

If you buy a switch, firewall and AP from Unifi. The total software package is much better, and will recommend Unifi 10 of 10 times
If you only need Wifi and have other brands for switch and firewall, Alta APs are very good and get my recommendation.

You say assignment in like a business case? where you need to implement a wifi network? if its firewall, switch and ap. use unifi. If its only a wifi delivery, use Alta

hi @3rikhansen

I work for a distributor who has Alta in there portfolio (which is why i have worked a bit with Alta) and as a part to “dress” the sales people for partners and such, i had to find pro and cons for both so sales knows what they talk about

Nice observation, however when talking firewall, router, switches, … You must consider your budget. Unifi can not even compare to Palo Alto, Stromshiled, Fortinet, etc in firewalls, even in routers there are waaay better products out there. Then again it does all come down to budget. And for the APs, Alta is as you said good, and can compete with Unifi.
