does it work with whizcomms internet?
I would assume it will work*
WhizComms uses ONR if am correct.
(optical Network *Router)
My understanding is If your on the old subscription 1Gbps plans which WhizComms allows you to Bridge a Particular LAN port to your WAN link, you will eliminate Double NAT issue.
Even if your facing Double NAT issue, it will still work with Route10.
You just need to be aware, not to use the same DHCP IP address rages on both WhizComms ONR and AltaLabs Route10. (eg. WhizComms ONR IP range is 192.168.10.x)
If your an advance user, you might want to statically assign a fix IP address to your AltaLabs and see if WhizComms ONR allows your to DMZ that fix IP address.
Happy to help you out as I am based in Singapore too.
My ISP that am using with my 2 Route10 units are
- MyRepublic 10Gbps (Static Public IP)
- Simba 10Gbps (CGNAT)
- StarHub 5Gbps Plan (Dynamic Public Ip)
The Three ISP mention above are using ONT, thus I already Eliminated Double NAT
i mean i want to replace whizcomms modem with alta labs route10 router to use sfp optic fiber cables. does the router work?
for Simba 10Gbps, can i replace its modem with alta labs route10 router to use sfp optic fiber cables since is the about the same price as whizcomms $30 per month?
Sounds like you are trying to get the fibre connection from your wall directly to your Route 10.
In that case you need to find an ISP that is able to do an SFP(+) handoff rather than through an ONT/ONR (“modem”). Some ISPs call such an option an ONU - like ViewQwest, which I believe is the only residential fibre internet provider in Singapore that does so.
You’re out of luck with WhizComms or SIMBA for such a use case
thank you.
Can I ask which plan for myrepublic are you using? Is it the 10Gbps Gamer plan or the Hyperspeed plan
if you would like to use 10G connection from Route10 → 10G WAN ONT/ONR, you will need to get this SFP+ RJ45 multiGig module from reputable brand. This will enable Route10 to have a RJ45 10G Port (via the SFP+)
Route 10 can be used as your main router*
but note that Whiscomms Fiber connection is VIA ONR (Optical network Router)
you might face connection issue with advance use eg CCTV remote viewing due to DOUBLE NAT issue. but for netflix and other surfing, not really an issue actually.
For Simba 10G, they DO NOT give you router, but they give you ONT (modem) with 10G WAN RJ45 and you still need to buy the SFP+ RJ45 multiGig module to work with Route10 SFP+ 10G
am using HyperSpeed Plan 10G with phone line and Static IP add on
